  About Qubit

Qubit Systems Inc. was founded in 1995 as a spin-off company from Queen's University at Kingston, Ontario, Canada. We specialize in the design of instrumentation for research and teaching in the biological sciences, with a scope ranging from plant physiology to human respirometry. Our aim is to provide educational establishments, research institutes and companies with innovative, cost-effective equipment for research, teaching, and industrial applications.

Qubit's Laboratory Packages provide students with hands-on experience in collecting and manipulating experimental data, and are used in over 500 universities worldwide. For research and industrial purposes, Qubit manufactures and sells a broad range of gas analyzers, environmental sensors, instruments for aquatic biology, and the world's most sophisticated range of fluorescence imaging systems for chlorophyll, GFP and other biologically important compounds.

Qubit was formed by university researchers to meet the needs of professional scientists and teachers. We speak your language, and are always ready for free consultation concerning any aspect of your research or teaching needs. Contact us - you'll be glad you did.

Stephen Hunt, Ph.D.
President & CEO
Steve completed his doctorate at the prestigious John Innes Center in the UK before moving to Queen's University where he published extensively in the field of N2 fixation, respiration and photosynthesis. Qubit's laboratory packages have been tested over many years in Steve's undergraduate courses, and much of Qubit's equipment is featured in his research.
Nicholas Dowling
VP – Product Development
Nick is a company co-founder, and Qubit's chief instrument designer. Co-author of five US patents, Nick is an electronics expert with a gift for innovation, particularly in the field of gas analysis and conditioning. Nick's unique designs have allowed researchers worldwide to conduct novel experiments in a broad range of fields. He's always happy to discuss your needs for new and existing products.
Chris Wellstood
Biomedical Electronics Engineering Technologist
Before joining Qubit, Chris was a leading light at Queen's University's Biomedical Engineering Department, where he was involved in numerous projects concerned with human mobility. At Qubit, Chris designs instruments for human electrophysiology and human respirometry, as well as being our chief software engineer.
Jason Curtis, M.Sc.
Sales and Marketing Manager
Jay completed his Master's degree at Queen's, and then did postgraduate research in the US before joining Qubit. He has considerable experience in teaching undergraduate laboratories, and a wide range of expertise in various biological disciplines. You will meet Jay at many of the conferences where we exhibit the Qubit product line.
David Layzell, Ph.D., FRSC
Co-Founder and Scientific Advisor
David Layzell is one of Canada's leading scientists. Having won many research awards, including the prestigious Staecie Fellowship for his work in N2 fixation, David went on to found the BIOCAP Canada Foundation that supports research into the control of greenhouse gas emissions and the development of renewable bio-based products. David uses much of Qubit's equipment in his research laboratory.
