Teaching Packages

Qubit's aim is to provide the laboratory instructor with all of the tools required to conduct successful laboratory sessions in an engaging and concise fashion. To this end, each of our packages includes all of the instrumentation, software and teaching aids that the instructor needs for either formalized or research-oriented investigations.



AQUARESP Aquatic Respirometry Package

The Aquatic Respirometry Package measures changes in oxygen production, transpiration or respiration in aquatic plants and animals. The package is a single channel, open flow, intermittent respirometry system based on a research-grade oxygen sensor and 15-bit data acquisition via USB. The PC software provides accurate and stable measurements of oxygen production or consumption rates every 3-5 minutes in a controlled environment.

BBB1LP Breath by Breath Respirometry Package (O2 + CO2)

Qubit’s new BBB1LP Breath by Breath Respirometry Package is designed to measure both steady-state and dynamic changes in human metabolic rate under a variety of test conditions. VO2, VCO2, VO2max, resting metabolic rate (RMR), Respiratory Exchange Ratio and a host of other physiological and pulmonary parameters may be measured using the package. Inhaled and exhaled breath are analyzed by rapid response O2 and CO2 analyzers at a sampling rate of 100 Hz so that the entire breath wave form is displayed graphically in real time. The breath wave form and end-tidal O2 and CO2 are clearly displayed, even during vigorous exercise.

BBBO2 Breath by Breath Respirometry Package (O2)

This package allows accurate measurements of photosynthesis, respiration, photorespiration, water use efficiency and stomatal conductance at a fraction of the cost of research-grade instruments. The package includes a Temperature/Humidity sensor and incorporates an LED Light Source to supply photosynthetically active radiation with minimum heat load.

HE1LP Human Electrophysiology Package

The Electrophysiology Package is designed to investigate electrophysiological aspects of human physiology in a completely safe and non-invasive manner. Signals are transmitted through optically isolated circuitry, and power for the sensors are transformed from AC to low voltage DC, so there is never any risk of electric shock. The complete package includes analyzers for electromyopathy (EMG), eletrocardiography (EKG), electrooculography (EOG), galvanic skin response (GSR), and hand dynamometry (grip strength and control). All analyzers are available for sale separately.

An accurate, low cost package for entry level research and teaching. Includes a non dispersive infrared CO2 analyzer and fuel cell O2 sensor for measurement of pCO2 and pO2 in mixed expired air. A calibrated pneumotach spirometer measures breath volume and frequency. Heart rate is measured by a wireless hand-held monitor. A four channel LabPro interface and Logger Pro software records and displays data for calculation of VO2, VCO2, RQ, Anaerobic Threshold etc.

The chamber volume of this package is 50 mL.

PH1LP Photosynthesis Package

Our Photosynthesis Package measures photosynthetic rate in attached or detached leaves and displays experimental data to your computer screen in real time. A leaf is enclosed in a transparent chamber incorporating an O2 sensor that measures photosynthetic O2 evolution.

RP1LP Low Range Respiration Package

If you wish to study small organisms or organisms with low metabolic rates, purchase the Low Range Respiration Package for measurements of CO2 exchange (open system) and O2 exchange (closed system). This package is similar to the High Range package except that it utilizes smaller animal chambers and the S151 CO2 Analyzer (0-2000 ppm).

Air is re-circulated through the chamber and through an NDIR CO2 analyzer by a battery powered DC Pump. CO2 accumulation is monitored in software, and simple data analysis tools are used to calculate the rate of soil CO2 efflux.

DV_TEACH Video Tracking Software for Educational Laboratories

A turn-key video tacking system designed for the teaching laboratory ONLY, the DV_TEACH package includes all the hardware and software required to conduct numerous studies on the behavior of a wide variety of organisms under various environmental conditions. Based on measurements of contrast, the software assigns a specific value to pixels at the center of the tracked object, and tracks these values, providing X-Y coordinates as the object moves.
